The Challenge
A precision engineering manufacturer operating a 14,000 sqm facility in Singapore's western industrial corridor was running a 12-year-old card-based access control system. The system had several critical limitations that were generating operational and security risk:
Card sharing and buddy clocking — operators sharing swipe cards created time-attendance fraud and unauthorised zone access
No HR integration — leavers' cards were manually deactivated (sometimes days after departure), creating security gaps
High-value clean room was protected only by card access — insufficient for ISO Class 7 certification requirements
No central audit trail — access logs from 62 doors were stored locally and were not consolidated
A major OEM client was also requiring evidence of strict access control in the clean room as part of their supplier qualification audit — creating a deadline-driven requirement for upgrade.
The Solution
Biometric Access Control Platform
62 access points were upgraded to dual-factor biometric readers — fingerprint combined with RFID card. High-security zones (clean room, IP vault, management offices) were upgraded to fingerprint + PIN, ensuring three-factor protection for the most sensitive areas. All readers were IP-networked and managed from a centralised access control server.
HR System Integration (SAP SuccessFactors)
A middleware integration was developed between the access control platform and the client's SAP SuccessFactors HR system. When an employee is onboarded in HR, access credentials are automatically provisioned based on their department and role profile. When an employee is offboarded or put on leave, access rights are automatically revoked — with no manual step required from the security or IT team.
Centralised Audit Dashboard
All 62 doors report to a centralised audit log with 180-day retention. Security management can run access reports by employee, door, time range, or zone — within 30 seconds. Reports are exportable in formats accepted by the client's OEM audit process.
Implementation Approach
The installation was carried out in rolling weekend shifts to avoid disruption to production. The facility operates 5.5 days per week — Biztech's installation team worked Saturdays and Sundays, completing zones sequentially so that no production area was without access control for more than 4 hours during any shift. The live changeover from the old system to the new system took 3 hours on a Sunday morning, with both systems online simultaneously during the transition.
Biometric enrolment of 340 staff was completed over 3 days using temporary enrolment stations set up in the canteen and factory floor — requiring no staff to leave their workstation for more than 10 minutes.

Automatic
Access revocation on HR offboarding — zero manual steps, zero lag
Passed
OEM supplier qualification audit — access control cited as "exceeds requirement"
0 hours
